Dry Creek Valley
Opposite the Russian River from the Alexander Valley, the Dry Creek Valley appellation is somewhat wetter than the surrounding areas, but still quite hot. The fertile soil in the valley makes vines grow quickly, requiring extensive and frequent pruning. The growing season is long, and vineyards here harvest everything from floral whites like Sauvignon Blanc (which is very herbaceous here) to the bold red Zinfandel. Grassy, bell pepper flavored Cabernet Sauvignon is also made here, with some Merlot and Chardonnay vineyards mixed in as well. [Content provided by Bottlenotes]
