Willamette Valley
Oregon’s most important and oldest appellation, the Willamette Valley spans the distance from the city of Eugene in the south to Portland in the north. Roughly three quarters of Oregon’s wine grapes are produced here, as well as the majority of its other agricultural products. The region encompasses three smaller AVAs as well, Dundee Hills, Eola-Amity Hills, Yamhill-Carlton, and McMinnville. Despite the Willamette Valley’s prosperity and success, most wineries remain fairly small and even rustic, and bulk growers have not eclipsed fine wine production as they have in so many other fertile valleys around the world.
