The most transportable and adaptable of all of the classic grapes, Cabernet Sauvignon has spread from its historical home in France to areas throughout the globe.

Pinot Gris

A well-known and fashionable grape, Pinot Gris is a mutation of Pinot Noir that looks quite similar in the vineyard.

Syrah

There is a bit of a debate in the wine world as to the origins of the Syrah grape, known as Shiraz in Australia. The Syrah grape makes notably character-filled wines in every region in which it is grown.

Viognier

Until the 1980s, Viognier was hardly ever seen outside the northern Rhône. The classic Old World style of Viognier is crisp, dry, and intense.

Pinot Noir

Out of all red varieties, Pinot Noir is the most difficult to grow. Wherever it grows, this delicate grape will struggle. But with attentive cultivation and proper vinification, Pinot Noir wines can be stellar.

Gewürtraminer

Merlot

Merlot, with its soft, lush, fruity character, is referred to as Cabernet Sauvignon without the pain.

Semillon

Semillion is one of the more floral and aromatic white wine grapes on the spectrum. Of the three grapes used in making dessert wines, such as Sauternes, Semillon is the one that gives these great wines their ability to age.

Zinfandel

Zinfandel is more or less a Californian grape. Wines made from Zinfandel grapes typically have high levels of alcohol, with concentrated fruit flavors and a good helping of spice.

Chenin Blanc

Chenin Blanc is a sturdy grape with high natural acidity and versatility.

Sangiovese

Sangiovese is Italy’s most planted variety and is responsible for all of the great red wines of Tuscany. Although Californian wineries are producing good Sangiovese, the same could be said for nearly every other grape variety in the world.

Petite Sirah

The thick-skinned Petite Sirah grape produces a very tannic, full-bodied wine with overtones of raspberry and plum.

Cabernet Franc

Cabernet Franc is best known as the third grape of Bordeaux, and is a key blending partner in most Bordeaux-style blends. It is mainly used for its bright fruitiness, and is a lighter, less tannic version of Cabernet Sauvignon.

Sparkling White

Sparkling wines are made from still wines, such as Chenin Blanc, French Colombard or Chardonnay, which serve as a base for the next stage of this unique winemaking process.

Malbec

Malbec is soft, yet robust, intense, and full-bodied.

Ice Wine

Ice wine maintains its mystique since most people haven’t heard of it. Like the name suggests, ice wine is made from grapes that were frozen.

Orange Muscat

Orange Muscat is actually from a family of grapes with more than 200 varieties.

Sparkling Red

Sparkling red wines are made from still wines, such as Pinot Noir, which serve as a base for the next stage of this unique winemaking process.

Chardonnay

Full-flavored and easydrinking, Chardonnay is a favorite variety of wine drinkers and wine makers alike.

Sauvignon Blanc

The piercing aromas and crisp acidity of Sauvignon Blanc elicit strong and varied reactions.

Riesling

Riesling is one of the truly classic grape varieties, and makes some of the world’s most elegant and aromatic white wines with an extraordinary balance of sweetness and acidity.
