Frog’s Leap
Rutherford, California
Originally founded on a spot along Mill Creek known as the Frog Farm, Frog’s Leap now makes its home in the heart of Rutherford in the historic Red Barn. The family-owned winery has been farming responsibly and producing wines since 1981. Presented with a warm sense of humor ~ our motto says it all “Time's Fun When You're Having Flies”.
Frog’s Leap is home amongst 130 acres of vineyards in Rutherford at the historic Red Barn. This grand and welcoming building was built in 1884 as the Adamson Winery and renovated in 1994 as Frog’s Leap’s permanent home. Using the best of Napa Valley’s organically grown grapes and the most traditional winemaking techniques, Frog's Leap strives to produce wines that deeply reflect the soils and climate from which they emanate.
The way they make wine at Frog’s Leap is fundamentally linked to the way they grow their grapes. Believing that a grapevine should be grown in healthy soil that supports all the nutrient needs of the plant, Frog's Leap has been farming organically since 1988. We believe that most of the great and historic wines of the world have been made from non-irrigated grapevines-and to that end, Frog's Leap dry farms nearly 200 acres in the Napa Valley. And to that end, we accept the premise that the greatest of wines are those that most truly reflect their soil, climate and circumstance (collectively referred to as “terroir”.) and it is the winemaker’s role to stand back and let the natural beauty of the grapes show through.
